Brighton-based musician Nik Barrell is apparently an avid traveller and his bio states that he draws inspiration from several different countries.
We are told that he has played the blues in Moscow, gypsy music in Ukraine and performed house parties in Cuba. It says here that he has also "hopped from Mafia parties to gypsy horseback weddings".
if all, or any of this, were true you'd expect his second solo album to be an eclectic collection of songs tapping into exotic global sounds.
Instead of which, he teamed up with Alan Grice and Alex White from the English psych band Electric Soft Parade (also from Brighton) for a conventional collection of chirpy pop tunes with a mildly blues flavour.
After such a big build up, it all feels like a huge let down.
