Review: 'Aren Drift'
'Sun Goes Down / Snow Queen'

-  Genre: 'Rock'

Our Rating:
With an EP – ‘Beneath the Surface’ surface out on March 1st, Brighton based dark-hued rock act Aren Drift (formed in 2016 in Brighton and named after Czech musician, artist and photographer Aren Drift, aka Radka Nemcova) have gone for a double-whammy of singles just a week apart, with ‘Sun Goes Down’ heralding the EP’s arrival and ‘Snow Queen’ giving a further flavour of the band’s dramatic sound.

‘Sun Goes Down’ showcases Radka’s brooding lower vocal reaches, which start husky and transitions to a projection of emotion from the bottom of big lungs, pitched against a chunky guitar backdrop, while ‘Snow Queen’ amalgamates folk, post-rock, and ethereal gothiness as channelled through the progressive pomp of Muse to conjure theatrical high drama.
