Review: 'FAY, KALYN'
'Good Company'

-  Label: 'Horton Records'
-  Genre: 'Alt/Country' -  Release Date: '15th February 2019'

Our Rating:
For this Cherokee singer-songwriter, home is where the heart is.

In Kalyn Fay's case, this is Oklahoma and she describes her sophomore record, the follow up to 2016's Bible Belt, as "a love letter to the place I have known best".

The eleven country-tinged melodies drift along sleepily allowing the listener to bathe in the warmth of her mellifluous vocals.

Fay is not afraid creating then maintaining an unhurried mood with songs that deal with ex-lovers, friendship and searching for peace of mind. "We're all just looking for something" she observes on the title track with the implicit message being that , when it comes to this particular quest, good things come to those who are prepared to be patient.

Even on the "flattop dreams" of a road song (Highway Driving) it's the drift rather than the destination that counts most.

Quietly reflective rather than morbidly introspective, the honesty and beauty of this album is such that right from the first listen it has all the qualities of a trusted friend.
