Review: 'Deference & Vanity'
'Condemned to Repeat (EP)'

-  Genre: 'Heavy Metal' -  Release Date: '26th April 2019'

Our Rating:
This is a split EP with a difference (as well as a Deference), as the two bands exchange members for a truly collaborative effort. Deference’s Rob (vocals) and Matt (vocals & guitar) join Vanity, while Kerrie (Vocals) and Ryan (Vocals) from Vanity feature on the Deference songs.

Both bands mine a seam of emotive metal, and the four tracks on offer here mix thumping percussion and massively overdriven guitars with a cacophonous melee of vocals, combining clean and guttural roars in tag and simultaneously.

There’s an abundance of fury whipped up into the guitar-driven maelstrom, and if the final track, ‘Disillusioned’ gets a bit nu-metal, it’s with a contrasting chug and sinew that evokes Pitchshifter as much as any of the more obvious contemporary touchstones.
