Review: 'Trident Waters'
'Hollywood to Vegas (EP)'

-  Genre: 'Rock' -  Release Date: '7th June 2019'

Our Rating:
Blues-based heavy rock – alternative or otherwise – always seems to come back to Led Zeppelin, with the subsequent trajectory landing with a range of Zeppelin-influenced riffy contemporaries, with Rival Sons being one of the touchstones on the press release for this London power trio. It’s a classic formula, and their third EP stick to the template, and why not?

There’s nothing fundamentally wrong with the five chunky cuts on offer here, and Trident Waters aren’t lacking in nuts or guts. They’re not short on songwriting ability or musicianship, either. But they are a shade lacking on the originality score, plundering Free / Reef / Rival Sons sameness for the bulk of the EP, with ‘Desert Soul’ going full Zep squawk. Still, they’ve got some serious solos and sound better than their press shot suggests.
