'All of Them Monsters'

-  Label: 'Wax Electric Recordings'
-  Genre: 'Indie' -  Release Date: '22nd February 2019'

Our Rating:
Releases outside of the mainstream / chart cycle can have a slow diffusion – especially when artists are running their own operations and circulating CD overseas in hope of coverage.

‘All of them Monsters’ deserves coverage in recognition of Raymond Graham McLaughlin – aka Chancellorpink’s – commitment and tenacity alone: this CD landed with me via W&H HQ from Pittsville, Pennsylvania. It’s clear that this is very much a DIY operation which goes far beyond McLaughlin’s playing every instrument while also covering production and engineering.

It’s lo-fi, with fizzy guitars and layered harmonies defining the sound. The mixing is rough, with the percussion barely audible in places. There are some neat tunes tucked away on here: McLaughlin has an ear for a hook, an easy melody, and while there’s nothing instantly memorable about ‘All of Them Monsters’, it has a quality and charm that’s likely to give it the kind of cult appeal in certain circles that all the major-label backing and PR budget can’t buy.
