Review: 'Theatre Royal'
'A Marvellous Death'

-  Genre: 'Indie' -  Release Date: '28th February 2020'

Our Rating:
Theatre Royal are back once again, although the fact of the matter is that they never really go away, with forthcoming album ‘Portraits’ being their fifth, and last year’s 22-track singles compilation evidencing the consistency of their output over the preceding 8 years.

‘A Marvellous Death’, pitched as ‘a 3 minute pop song about an old man that doesn’t want to be trapped by old age’ and who ‘decides to take his final days into his own hands and die a young man’s death’ finds the Rochester quartet playing to their strengths.

An uplifting combination of drive and jangle, along with a strong melody and keen chorus mean this really is magnificent, living up to the high standards Theatre Royal have set for themselves. It’s also one of the most life-affirming songs about death you’re likely to hear in a long time.
