Review: 'DON'T DRINK THE WATER'
'Saturday Night Paint (EP)'

-  Label: 'Fretsore Records'
-  Genre: 'Alt/Country' -  Release Date: '11th September 2020'

Our Rating:
This debut EP is by a Northampton-based country-folk band fronted by father-son duo David and Ben O'Leary.

The four tracks were recorded by Scottish producer. and fellow Fretsore artist, Jack Henderson who also wrote the track Don't Drink The Water. David O’Leary penned the other three tunes.

Although composed in the heart of England, O'Leary's story songs depict characters who live a long way from the East Midlands' market town. He describes his affectionate brand of Americana as "the music of outlaws, bar room Romeos, friendly waitresses, lonesome railroad men and tough situations."

We journey as far as the Gulf of Mexico and in Heading For Paradise a young woman flies the nest to start a new life in Colorado Colorado Springs.

The EP's title comes from a line in this song which describes the man she hooks up with as being "as bright as Saturday night paint." This adventurous woman fares better than the troubled drifter with a past in Sally's Got A Secret.

Inexplicably, 'Heading For Paradise' is labelled on Spotify as having 'explicit' content but there is nothing remotely offensive about any of the modest, warm-hearted songs on this release.
