This EP by the wonderful Lunatraktors is being released on the Anniversary of the burning down of the houses of parliament in 1834 and feels sonorous and deeply enough to be a fittingly evocative reminder of that event. Lunatraktors are a broken Folk duo from Margate who really need to be seen live to truly get just how fantastic what they do is, but this EP goes a long way to capturing that magic. It was recorded at The Preservation Room in Kent that appears to be the perfect studio for the band to record in.
The EP starts with Black Raven II a deep dark rumination set to a sparse percussion and Piano backing with some gently choral backing vocals this has the feel of a hymnal for what is an old Cossack war song.
16,000 Miles is already a live favorite in this setting Carli Jefferson's eclectic percussion really accentuates the tale of being desperate enough to travel 16,000 miles on the promise of a good job and prospects to find yourself doing back breaking manual work instead. This is a very thought-provoking song that needs to be heard on a surround sound system or headphones to really glory in what the percussion is doing.

Unquiet Grave is a traditional lament that here is sung by Clair Le Couteur in its most traditional sense, to rail against the injustices of a heartless tory government, as sadly some things don't change, even if their treatment of the song is non-traditional and reminiscent of Camera Obscura era Nico, the target of there ire sadly is as traditional as it gets in England.
The Ep closes with there version of Holly & Ivy that comes complete with a clog dance backing as well as odd percussion set against their harmonies as the traditional Carol is re-worked into something that's both recognizable and rather original at the same time.
