Our Rating:
The 19th Street Band's philosophy can be summed up by the chorus to Nothing To Do (All Day To Do It): "Bow that fiddle, sing that song, work that rhythm all night long".

The heart of the band are Northern Ireland born Caolaidhe (pronounced “Cally”) Davis (guitar/vocals) and his American wife Meghan Davis (fiddle/mandolin/vocals). The couple are backed by a rhythm section of Greg Hardin (bass) and Patty Dougherty (drums)

All nine songs on their second album are upbeat numbers with tight vocal harmonies that combine rowdy Irish folk with Bluegrass tinged Appalachian country. All the tunes are geared towards creating a good time mood so there's no great emphasis on variety.

The album saves the best for last, concluding with three songs co-written by Philip Donnelly and John Prine namely: The Cajun Rock and Roll Stanza, Your Love Is Like The Lone Ranger and I’ve Been Waiting. Donnelly produced all the tracks at a studio in Ireland and performed as a guest musician on the album.

Meghan Davis sings lead vocals on just two tracks, True Love and Your Love Is Like The Lone Ranger which, not coincidentally, also happen to be the best.

The latter includes the great lines: "It's not the coming or the going, it's the here and now and the doing that's the thing" which neatly sum up the free-spirited mood of this record.
