Review: 'Walker, Ryley'
'Axis Bent'

-  Label: 'Husky Pants'
-  Genre: 'Indie'

Our Rating:
Ahead of the release of the new album, ‘Course In Fable’ Ryley Walker releases a second single, ‘Axis Bent’.

Having grown up in Chicago and knocked about before moving to New York where he’s currently based, Ryley is one of those quintessential underground / cult indie artists, with albums released on Dead Oceans, Thrill Jockey and Drag City, among other labels, and putting this latest album out non his own imprint. It’s been produced/engineered/mixed by John McEntire, renowned for his work with Tortoise, Stereolab, The Red Krayola and a whole load more, and the stylistic focus of the album is very much on that 90s Chicago indie scene sound.

‘Axis Bent’ is kinda easy, kinda breezy, kinda laid back and kinda lo-fi in a vintage way. It’s kinda indie with a country twist and a dash of soul. It’s mellow, easy on the ear. It’s alright. Bit middling, but by no means offensive.
