Review: 'Special Pillow, The'
'Mind Wipe'

-  Label: 'Zofko/Bandcamp'
-  Genre: 'Indie' -  Release Date: '12.8.22.'

Our Rating:
The Special Pillow are back with there latest album Mind Wipe. This Hoboken band have been around since 1995 and this album was recorded in Brooklyn at Deep Dive studios. The bands core are Dan Cuddy, Katie Gentile, Peter Stuart and Eric Marc Cohen.

This album opens with the chiming guitars of Red Lantern that appears to be shining over you, with it's insistent riff making sure you keep that Red Lantern shining.

Mind Wipe is something most of us desperately need at the moment and I'm not sure the Mind Wipe sponge that came with this cd will do the job to clear out what has happened since the last Special pillow album came out, but we should all hope, we can collectively erase this madness with superlative power pop like this.

So Inclined is about how you must place that Special Pillow at just the right angle to receive its full benefit as the sawing strings try to placate your demons the very Moe Tucker inspired drumming, as your mind shatters, kaleidoscopic dreams unfurl like a cross between The Silos and Rain Parade with a droning intensity that shifts and shatters through the near 7 minutes of this brilliant tune.

Access Denied asks us to prove we are not robots, and how hard it is to get things done in this mind melding computer age as the brass section comes to the fore and we wonder if you'll be allowed to go and buy any more scented pillows or not. We've all been there, and things only seem to be getting more complicated.

Organic Panic is a song that seemingly builds on the lockdown shortages and panics that we may never see another Organic tomato, how will we live without them, the music gently engulfs you in its warm embrace as the Cornet really feels perfect for walking round an organic farmers market.

The album concludes with Another Tragic Chorus that has some eerie wind synth and bass melodica on it, that gives this a bizarre horror film element to parts of this song, that could evoke some Wicker Man activity on the Jersey Shore.
