Review: 'CLAYHILL'
'NORTHERN SOUL'

-  Label: 'EAT SLEEP (www.eatsleeprecords.com)'
-  Genre: 'Pop' -  Release Date: '6th September 2004'

Our Rating:
This sombre trio was allaegedly the idea of two Alton Towers workers, one of who is CLAYHILL'S lead singer Gavin Clark (previously of Sunhouse fame) who learnt all his singing skills from his grandmother; the Delta Blues legend of Basingstoke. Well, if we're to believe his colourful press release, like.

'Northern Soul' consists of subtle instrumental twists and is built around Clark's soulful country-tinged vocals, reminiscent of Kurt Wagner and to a lesser extent Ryan Adams. This is a carefully crafted number that utilizes the lyrical hook; 'No rain is gonna fall' and gives off positive vibes aplenty. It will have people scampering around for a pen, in order to add Clayhill's forthcoming 'Small Circle' album to an anorak and Wellies that no doubt currently make up their autumn shopping list.
