This London-based Portuguese guitarist’s solo album promises the intimate and immersive genre-fluid contemporary jazz.
Each track was written, performed, engineered, mixed and produced by Velasco. He also did the artwork and album design.
The opening piece ,Canção Do Vidoeiro, is one of two tracks that exceed three minutes. The other seventeen are shorter tunes to make for a modest overall playing time of just 36 minutes 29 seconds.
An obvious comparison would be Jan Garbarek but there are plenty of experimental, improvised effects to stretch the possibilities of solo guitar and create some nice, albeit brief, ambient textures.
The mood is melancholic, reflective and gentle; a quietly understated work of beauty.
