Review: 'Smalltown Tigers'
'Crush On You'

-  Label: 'Area Pirata'
-  Genre: 'Punk/New Wave' -  Release Date: '9.2.24.'

Our Rating:
Smalltown Tigers finally release the bands first full album following on from 2020's brilliant debut EP Five Things, in between these Rimini punks were hand picked by The Damned to open for them across Europe and picked up plenty of other accolades, as the trio of Valli, Monty and Castel have become just about the best-known female Punk band in Italy. The album was recorded in Forli with Stiv Cantarelli producing and Rob Villa engineering, the album was mixed by Jim Diamond in Detroit.

From the moment Meet Me In The City bursts out of the speakers this album hits you at 100 mph with pop punk guitars, super steady drumming and the hope that you'll turn up for that date and have a blast with Smalltown Tigers.

Crush On You flies along as they let the object of the bands desire know just how much of a crush they have, it's certainly not for any kind of Belieber as this packs a good punch.

In A Dream (With A Fool Like You) sounds like an updated Distillers or Muffs song, never forgetting to be catchy and relatable while leading you on towards the conclusion of the dream they are having.

Teddy Bear is a full throated raspy lean tribute to admitting you still own a Teddy Bear and why the hell not.

I Want you is a taut anthem for a lover that's not always around, but they always want them to be, it breaks down into cascading drums and a serious pleading for them to give in to the love.

Maybe this song will crush you, with its insistent riff, as they try to settle the quandary they are in, all wrapped up in a super catchy tune with a rather nifty guitar solo that's a classic garage rock killer.

Monster flies along at a Ramones style pace while tackling similar subject matter to the L7 song of the same name, this however is a very different beast.

Dressed Right And Skinny isn't meant in the way you might ask a city gent while he tries on a new suit, as this rocks it's way into your heart as they try on another pin stripe suit.

Joey is a fast and frantic tribute to the object of their adoration Joey, with a riff that won't let up, everyone can chant along to this.

The album closes with Killed Myself When I Was Young that seems to suggest that you may as well be dead, as live a straight boring normal life. So let rip and go for it before it comes to a squalling conclusion with a sax solo that could have been nicked off The Stooges.
