Our Rating:
The Fabulous Courettes are back with The Soul Of... this time in Stereo Fidelity rather than being Back In Mono like last time. The Danish Brazilian Duo of Flavia and Martin Couri have enlisted A-list support of Darian Sahanaja, Richard Gottherer, La La Brooks, Sorne Christensen, Alonso Vargas, Peter Kehl, Kasper Wagner and CT Levine to create the fabulous wall of Courettes sound of sorrow and heartbreak, including the sorrow of losing your father, even if they have long been estranged.

The album opens with You Woo Me that is the first sign that the latest album by The Fabulous Courettes is more in love with classic 60's Girl band pop, than Garage rock, over the driving beat Flavia gets more slinky and seductive, she tells us all the reasons why you should woo her, with great backing vocals and nicely fuzzy guitars helping to make the point.

California is mixed by Darian Sahanaja which is reason enough to buy the album, this music bizz legend adds his deft touch, to this glorious love letter to the fun you can have in California, with or without the Beach Boys, the keyboards have a delightful Crystals style feel, complete with La La Brooks backing vocals, a deeply dappled guitar solo, this sounds like a perfect summer hit to my ears.

Keep Dancing is what we all need to do, no matter how bad things get, this will need some talc on the dancefloor and your finest Northern Soul dips and twirls, Flavia makes sure to Keep Dancing on her own, lost in the music, she dances her sorrows away, all mixed to perfection by Richard Gottherer no less, never forget what you get up to in the Night time is what really counts.

Here I Come yes she's gonna getcha, against the wall of fuzzy guitars and Martin's skittery drums propelling them forwards in time, for some classic woo's and a very Shangri La's style break down.

Don't Want You Back yep she's done with you, her husband Martin keeps that steady beat, Flavia pours out all her heartbreak and sorrow over the slow punctuated bears and melodramatic backing.

Wall Of Pain opens with the violins heralding the sorrow, sadness and shattered lives, the mellotron forges the song towards the heart of the destitution Flavia feels, everything has fallen to pieces, all that's left is misery.

Shake! Is a seductive brass led stomper, to get you shaking, shimmying towards Flavia, or any other hot hot tamale on that dancefloor, the sweat dripping before you ever touch, eyes locked you Shake! it on down together.

Boom Boom Boom is an obvious single and a delicious slice of girl group heartbreak, complete with the brilliant spoken word part from La La Brooks in her classic way, so glad to hear new music featuring Richard Gottherer, his mix is as stunning as you would hope for.

Better Without You the classic girl group subject matter sung and played with all the urgency and potency for a newly emancipated woman, she's had enough screaming and yelping her way out of the door, the melodrama never ends for this tempestuous relationship stomper.

Run Run Runaway is lushly orchestrated by Darian Sahanaja who helps create a cocoon of advice for someone who needs to get away from it all, La La Brooks adds all the authenticity of the girl Group heartbreak, La La narrates it like a news report, I just want to play this over and over.

Lies keeps the pain and sorrow close at hand, she needs you gone, no more Lies, not unless you can really fool her.

Stop! Doing That go on grow a pair, don't be such a pitiful momma's boy, she's found you out, you're on your own again, the sorrow in the wall of nattering backing vocals, your about to be taken down, amid everything Peter Kehl and Kaspar Wagner's horn section can throw at it.

The album close with For Your Love one last heartbroken epistle, a heartbroken plea to have some more of your love. Despite everything that's gone down, the battle for your fathers love, Martin finally replies to all the accusations, this becomes a sweet duet, they are closer than ever, together musically and in every way they can conceive, perfect to hold your love tightly as possible, dance the night away together, once more gliding from the gutter to the stars traumatic relationships re-built in death.
