Our Rating:
Earth creature by Boobie Knight and the universal lady
Earth Creature is the long out of print rare funk groove sensation from Boobie Knight And The Universal Lady, originally on the Brunswick Records offshoot Dakar Records in 1974. The album was produced by Alonzo Tucker, strangely Boobie Knights backing band The Universal Lady are all blokes, but what blokes they are TNT Torres, Michael Averett, Len Fletcher, J.W. Williams, Mervyn Joseph, Al Johnson, Mark Montana and Tom Sellitti.

The album opens with Feeling My Cheerios that is part Dr Buzzards Original Savannah band, part Swamp Dogg deep funk stew, with gloriously suggestive lyrics, over the over busy funky backing, this could easily lead to a Cheerios binge in the hope of feeling funky enough to really feel your Cheerios.

Burn The Saturday Night Fever pre-dates the film, yet would work for a John Travolta dance routine, every bit as dark as some of that films images, this has a great dirty brass section, spaced out guitar, with seemingly ad-libbed vocal asides, they shout out Soul over an almost afro-beat brass section.

April is as close to a slow smooch ballad as Boobie gets, this is all the lines he needs to seduce you, the trumpets herald his imprecations to make April his tune and his love, backing singers seem to sing booty yeah ah booty yeah, an almost Chet Baker trumpet solo adds a truly seductive edge.

Power Greater Than Man has preaching vocals shining a light on you, man's problems being discussed over a funky disco backing, are they searching for god or just a better place, more peaceful and loving, heralded by the rising horns among the biblical quotes for some really spiritual funk shining the light on a brighter day.

Somebody Touch Me (In The Right Place) is hot, sweaty and sexy, the super sleazy funky horns, will just make you wanna touch him right there in that place. Before that trumpet seems to have an aural orgasm, that's just right to set the dancefloor on fire with desire, he gives it to you on the ceiling, as well as the floor.

Flaming Youth is for all the teenagers on the dance floor, he's not blaming you for any mistakes you make, the world is torn apart around you, ignore the evil your elders try to trick you into, keep having a great time and try to make the world a better place, for all the sisters and brothers to be great lovers.

Ain't No Body Betta Dan You and you better believe it, they won't except any low self-esteem, listen to this song, let it empower you to be the best you that you can be, funk on down the street, this song will make you feel ten foot tall.

A Woman Will Make You Love is a slower funky love song, making sure all women know how much Boobie loves you and wants you. Let him wrap you in his arms, he will even split from the scene to be with you, you mean that much to him. He loves you so much he's gone all Teddy Pendergrass on her.

The Lovomaniacs is for that risque party vibe, Sex is chanted regularly as the salacious vocals and music get all the Lovomaniacs in the mood to Partay.

The Album closes with Earth Creature a sci-fi funkadelic mothership funky journey to other worlds, insistent guitar underpins all the questions they have for the Earth creature they found at their door looking for someone to love.
