Review: 'LOGANSTONE'
'London, Earl's Court Troubadour, 30th Sept 2004'

-  Genre: 'Pop'

Our Rating:
Bypassing the Italian stereotype on the door and heading straight in to The Troubadour venue, we are greeted by the view of an old Parisian cafe, a few directional checks and nods and head down the stairs to the well-hidden and cosy old skool venue.

LOGANSTONE are two young blokes from South London who have been compared to the likes of Air and Happy Mondays, but tonight - as a low-key warm-up for acclaimed American singer/ songwriter Brendan Benson - they do without the use of subtle electronic trimmings, and are stripped down to bare-ware acoustics in a bid to promote their newly released EP "Sooner Not Later".

Starting with the EP'S self-titled lead track, they kick the set off on the right foot with this considered venture into songcraft. A moving "Waited So Long" follows and hoards a real quality, but it's one that sadly they cannot maintain throughout their slot.

"Sure On Fire" and "So Loud" are enjoyable yet throwaway warm acoustic wailings, but "Come Again" and new material are flatly executed and fall short of "Sooner Not Later"'s obvious star quality. After the great early salvoes, Loganstone never really manage to get going and after a short 7 tracks they finish to a quiet smattering of applause.

It's all perfectly polite, but tonight Loganstone lack the spark and layers of their accomplished EP. While it's hard to criticize, it's harder to recommend. Better luck next time lads.
