Review: 'CLINIC'
'CIRCLE OF FIFTHS'

-  Label: 'Domino'
-  Genre: 'Indie' -  Catalogue No: 'RUG182CDP'

Our Rating:
It starts with a piano line that sounds like a bastardised version of the piano at the start of ‘I don’t like Mondays’ before morphing into a creepy, claustrophobic, rumbling beast. The vocals are sneered, lisping, half spoken pieces of malice. The guitar cuts through the atmospherics with a cavalier attitude before relenting and letting the piano back to the fore. It’s dark, slightly deranged and straining at it’s leash. God forbid it should be let loose.

On the flip, ‘The Scythe’ rocks like a demon, all Killing Joke guitars aping Cramps guitar lines drenched in reverb and an unholy back beat. An instrumental it’s got a bizarre comic book feel to it as though all the super villains are descending upon us.

Final track ‘Stardust’ catches us unaware by being a sunlight tinged, laid back affair. The vocals still insinuate all manner of dark thoughts but the music is verging on whimsical. A welcome counter point to that that has gone before.

Clinic remain an enigma on the edges of most music fans radars. This won’t change the situation I shouldn’t imagine, but you’d be missing out if you didn’t dip into their unique world.
