Review: 'VIB GYOR'
'VIB GYOR (3 track demo)'

-  Label: 'own label'
-  Genre: 'Rock' -  Release Date: '2004'

Our Rating:
Vib Gyor came together as a band in 2002 in the Leeds area. This 3 track demo see’s them immersing themselves in the kind of epic, melancholy sounding rock you would associate with ‘Bends’ era Radiohead or more recent work from the likes of Elbow.

Lead track ‘Permanent Disguise’ kicks things off with soaring guitars and keyboard line before the vocals from David Fendick move us into the main body of the song all breathless and urgent. His vocal style ranges from the quiet, broken man to the full blown windswept yearning. The 4 piece band behind him create a full, dense sound that never loses sight of melody.

‘Time’ slows things down and has a more acoustic feel to it. It would be disservice to class it as strictly acoustic as there’s so much going on that only repeat listens offer up the full story. The press release notes that Zane Keenan (guitar / keyboards) also plays an e-bow and I wouldn’t mind betting that it is this that lends ‘Time’ it’s charm (I say I wouldn’t mind betting as I wouldn’t know an e-bow if it came up and smacked me one).

Final song on this well produced demo is ‘You Wear Me Out’ which moves into Elbow territory, particularly the introduction which is reminiscent of ‘Fugitive Motel’. Perhaps the weakest track here, it is still marvellous stuff.

For those of us that miss the Radiohead that created ‘The Bends’ but are sick of the bed-wetting indie being pedalled by the likes of Snow Patrol, Keane, Coldplay et al, Vib Gyor are a name to keep track of. Find out more at www.vib-gyor.com.
