Mangene is the latest international project to feature Manuel Liebskind and Eugene S Robinson combining their talents from previous bands including Oxbow and BUNUEL to come up with some Avant Garde electronica dark fetishistic music that explores 101 Atomic Terms And what they Mean.
The A side opens with The Amber Of Heaven an odd slightly askew slice of electronica, weird pulses, sylph like vocals, like they have been trapped behind a screen to emote in the darkness, of a super unsafe space, in a cave beneath an alp, odd echoes and reverberations abound.
Froth deep in the decayed darkness of a club full of sex rabies and disease, Foetus meets Lydia Lunch, sex whispered vocals, among scream yelps distortions. Machines flaying brains, desperation of disgust, dark roomed Froth screaming at the bowels of heaven and hell. Beat rising with ardour never totally satisfied, just Froth it up some more, they wait for Stumbo to rear his head once, more tweeting incessantly.
Monkey Si! Monkey C is a trip into an alternate reality of nasty animal testing, in a drum and bass club for tortured souls, screams from beyond the obvious, this has a Wiseblood style motorik beat driving everything home, laughing at the insanity of everything they see.
Hey Bossa Nova makes me want to dig out my dad's old Eydie Gorme records, even if this is a total update of the Bossa Nova sound, into whispered vocals, loads of cymbal work, your subsumed in subservience to the new boss. While the dance show contestants look flummoxed at the Dance moves necessary to Bossa Nova to this.
