Here To Destroy is the second album by the immense West Country punk band Split Dogs who have been tearing up stages across Europe since forming in 2022, that have made them one of the essential bands to see live. With that in mind the band chose to record the second album as live as possible at Middle Farm Studios, recording straight to a 16 track tape, with no overdubs or effects and no computers involved, like the very real, in your face band they are. The current line up are Harry Martinez, Mil Martinez, Suez Boyle and Chris Hugall and they really are Here To Destroy.
The album roars out the speakers on Stay Tuned racing, raging at the need for a factory reset to get back to some sort of sanity, Harry is here to destroy all the modern crap ruining life, all the lies and hatred, a great hardcore ranting, raging riffing blast, that's a bit more controlled than it is live.
Monster Truck careens down the road like it's doing 80mph in a 20mh zone, while Harry wants to know what you want, making very clear they are not to be crossed, there fighting fit, so don't tread on me, guitar blazing like Dave Hill on steroids.
Animal is rampant, fighting your way out of the run-down estates, they won't be put in cages, hate is raging through this, 200mph drumming, controlled ire raging out of every pore. Whatever you do get out of Split Dogs way.
Be A Sport has a chanted intro, Suez's super heavy bassline riff wondering why you think they are lunatics, stop all your lies, this is a song for anyone who is dumb enough to hate Harry and anyone like them, it makes clear you can hate all you want, that's a badge of honour as Mil strides through the place destroying with his guitar.
Meg is trying to outdo Motorhead on the blistering speed attack, the pain has got to them, pounding the colossal walls of drums, rocking riff that won't let up, destroying hypocrisy one note at a time.
Lafayette is about Harry's mum's love of Northern soul clubs, like the Lafayette and the power of those tunes to make you lose yourself and forget everything, apart from the next dance move you must learn, or pull off the most abrasive sounding song ever about Northern Soul.
And What? is the bands anthem for the downtrodden working classes, having ago at the sort of idiot that has more cash than they can ever want and are still miserable horrible people, come on punch the air and get rid of those big shots now.
Precious Stones is one of the bands most immense live songs, Harry tells us all about getting a dose and facing the consequences, they are racing to get to the chemists before it shuts, hoping not to be maligned when it breaks down to Suez rumbling bassline and Chris' stripped back drums, you know they are about to exploding in raging pain.
The album closes with All In which is Split Dogs total approach, blasted through the 21 minutes it takes to listen to this album, They're All In and we should be All In supporting them and buying the album and seeing them live any chance you can, Mil destroys with one more pinpoint, precision 20 second solo, to make sure this will be one of the best punk albums you'll hear this year.
