Chords Of Love is the debut solo album by Austin based Synth artist Claude9, who has previously worked with among others Hail Marley, The Killer Bees, Raggamassive, Super Creeps and Xanimal. The album was recorded at Claude McCan's own Claude9 Studios with assistant producer Alec Esh and Mixed and mastered by Chicky Reeves in London.
The album opens with the almost menacing synths of Entrance that have an ambient foreboding, with almost Gregorian chanted choral vocals. Suddenly Jorja Chalmers Indian sounding sax elements get added into the slowly swirling miasma being created.
Chords of Love is for a super slow dance of desire, the synth wash is joined by finger snaps and a quavering keyboard motif ready for some very supine action, melismatic flourishes floating on clouds of love.
Cicada Soul features a massed choir of Cicadas conducted by Claude9 into a haunting chilled out choral dub soul piece.
Clouds So Low the break-beat dancers are out on the asphalt throwing shapes to the classic dance rhythm, synths are wrapping themselves around that riddim, with vocals that are somewhere between old school vocoder and Robbie Robertson Somewhere Down The Crazy River.
Can You Hear Them those cicadas won't shut up, they have been chirruping for days, when will we get any peace, well maybe some slow lazy harmonica and synths playing along to the chirruping can make it feel cool, rather than drenching hot humidity.
The Shadow is hiding behind some Cluster and Neu albums, hoping to be remembered as more than one of Jack Kerouac's more enduring obsessions, vocals peeking out, from the enveloping veil of synths.
Down To The Underground has the feel of a late 60's french noir trip into the Parisien underground catacombs, but with more late 70's early 80's drum elements, something spooky is going on.
Echolalia uses all sorts of echo effects, computer generated vocals and bass tones, this is more experimental than the rest of the album.
The album closes with what is the mantra of almost everyone I know right now Enough Is Enough, we just want it to stop, normality to return, this has a gentle afro-beat feel with some turntablism and colossal drum injections.
