I Dream Watching is the debut 12" single by Seablite offshoot Rhymies who are the solo project of Lauren Matsui who has put down her guitars and effects and picked up her keyboards and synths to record this EP at home in her living room.
The a-side opens with Bal Masque that feels like it is in a Cocteau Twins style synth cocoon, even as the dancefloor drum machine gets going, Lauren's vocals remain gloriously ethereally reverbed, in ways that will get the most reluctant wallflower up and mooching around on the dancefloor.
I Dream Watching is sparkling synth pop with a sense of urgency to get clarity on what you're watching in those dreams, trying to find some light in all the darkness.
The B-side opens with Crashing Lead that is being reviewed after the most recent Wifi crash, not that this song is about such mundane matters, she gazes as you go by and wonders, will you find these synths seductive in the ways she wants them to be.
The 12" single closes with the Hesperian (Again) who is sending out signs that the pain can be defeated, tonally shifting synths wave through the sparing drum pattern and gauzy vocals.
