Review: 'BLUEST SKY, THE'
'Homegrown'

-  Label: 'Self Released'
-  Genre: 'Alt/Country' -  Release Date: '25th April 2025'

Our Rating:
Songwriter Chuck Melchin (formerly of The Bean Pickers Union) admits that the mood of the six songs on this mini-album is “a bit surly”.

His New Hampshire based Alt.Country band embrace their rockier roots and Melchin acknowledges a strong debt to the Stones, Faces and Black Crowes.

The no-frills style is also, I’d hazard a guess, partly inspired by the rawness of REM’s Monster.

The record features Andy Santospago and Mike Giordano on electric guitars and Dave Westner on bass and drums for four of the six tracks. Jim Larkin is a one-man rhythm section on Cordelia.

Lynne Taylor of the duo Rockwood Taylor sings harmony on Interstate 84 and takes the lead vocal for the moving Tears for Appalachia , a song written for a fundraiser in response the horrific flooding in Asheville, NC in 2024.

The brisk dose of soulful surliness is served up in under 30 minutes.
