Our Rating:
Shoot the Point is the eighth album by Seattle based Twee pop legend Tullycraft who are back to bring a smile to our faces with some super cool twee pop they are still Sean Tollefson, Jenny Mears, Chris Munford and Corianton Hale with Guy Patterson, Ethan Jones, Pete Remine and Evan Mosher. The album was recorded, engineered and mixed by Pat Remine at Dubtrain Studios, Seattle.

The A-side opens with The Ledge that sounds well just like classic Tullycraft, cool slightly speedy Twee pop with wry lyrics and great harmonies, they are watching the birds wake up and fling themselves off The Ledge for another day flying around, the backing is cool and basic and totally effective, with some glorious guitar and keyboard action.

Turnstiles hardly seem to even exist anymore, now we have electronic gates, but for Tullycraft they have managed to fall asleep in a Turnstile and woken up next to the most wonderful person, who keeps replying to everything they say with I don't know, well what I know is this is super catchy and should be on the radio, if the world was a sane and sensible place this song would be a hit.

Jeanie's Up Again And Blaring Faith By The Cure features some delightful Cure influenced trumpet, on this great song about a friend who really wished they had been to the Batcave, probably dreaming of being one of those goth women with the rats on there shoulders, who scare all but the bravest of souls, somehow they have found themselves in a rare part of the USA that actually has a night bus service.

Love On The Left Bank takes them on a trip to Scotland to see the Libertines at King Tut's and everything that happens after the gig, they get dosed on Novacaine and end up dreaming they are the Pepsi and Shirley of indie pop.

Street Hassle Plays On Repeat can only mean they found the same Lou Reed bootleg I bought in the 80's that had a 45 minute version of Street Hassle on it, that never seemed to end, that repeating sha la la lets slip away refrain, the strings getting ever more poignant, no matter how dark the tale at the heart of the song gets, yes they re-work some of the best parts of that magical song, but whatever they sing at least tomorrow morning they won't be another hit and run, as Johnny and Pauline are nowhere to be seen.

The B-side opens with Rhinestone Tease that sounds like it ought to be a floor filler at the local indie disco, getting everyone bouncing about all over the place, shouting along to the dark days refrain. Tarrytown is the place they want us to get all dressed up and go to having a damn fine time.

Purple Leopard Print Suitcase is about to be purloined by my fab girlfriend, once she gets hold of it Tullycraft will never get that case back, you can keep your factory badges and your Helen Love rarities none of that means a thing, as long as Jo can grab that Purple Leopard Print Suitcase off you.

Modern Lovers is a more sideways tribute to the Modern Lovers than The Rockingbirds Johnathan Johnathan, it also namechecks all sorts of other minor indie legends, including one I walk out on not that long ago. It also takes me back to the years when I would see Jojo a few times a year, until all the fighting at some of his gigs got too much, instead they go back to someone's place that's a total mouse trap.

Clear Nail Polish is for one of those people who can't leave home in the morning until they have applied several layers of clear nail polish and lots of other crimes against them, this is slower and has a deeper sound, they want you to change your ways, but kind of know you never will, you'll just put on more layers of Clear Nail Polish as they get overwhelmed with sadness at the parting of these ways.

The album closes with a Well Rehearsed Reveal for someone who is dancing all alone, like they just don't care, the relationship is about to combust, but all you want to do is another Tik Tok dance how will it all end, well that will soon reveal itself.
