The Forbidden Ep is the latest single from Montreal darkwave act Sexomnia who have emerged from the dark rooms of Montreal's Fetish and alternative clubs to make club music. The trio of Sexomnia are Philip Faith, Pat Gaudette and Michael K. Rien who are joined on this Ep by Vocalists Marita Volodina, Isabelle Young and Jacinthe Benoit with the Ep being mastered by Attrition's Martin Bowes.
The Ep opens with the first version of Forbidden a dark goth floor filler with a Siouxie in the dungeon doing all sorts feel, kissing in the shadows, throaty backing vocals set against crash cymbals that sound like whips cracking away.
Vapor features Isabelle Young on vocals sounding like a modern young Vi Subversa within the squelchy beats, this is full on pumping dancefloor action, begging you to love her and the Creatures of the night she hangs around with.
Forbidden The Shadow Mix is more for the main dancefloor than the dungeon, with a quite liquid bass line and Marita Volodina's vocals more upfront in the mix, the synths are lighter, this is Forbidden love but with fewer S & M elements, a little more vanilla but still up to no good, out for fun and games.
The ep closes with Nigrum Viduam- Attrition Set You Free Mix wants you to release the poison and find your freedom, to do what you want and what you will, in that dark club with Jacinthe Benoit whispering imprecations in your ear, allowing you to come together on the dancefloor, with some bedroom strings and super squelchy bass, the whispers draw you deeper into the world of Sexomnia, how will you ever escape with your dignity intact.
