GARBAGE'S previous single, "Breaking Up The Girl" was a pleasant surprise for this reviewer, who'd previously (at times, anyway) had a tendency to write them off as a cold, calculated outfit almost indecently in thrall to technology.
That record was a winsome, slinky effort, revealing Shirley Manson capable of seduction without jettisoning tunes, but unfortunately "Shut Your Mouth" again reveals the ugly underneath in GARBAGE'S oeuvre.
Actually pretty typical in a fourth-single-culled-remorselessly-from-the-album kinda way, "Shut Your Mouth," grunts and bustles, stuttering away with lots of abrasive guitar overload and the sort of quasi-industrial sheen that would no doubt have Trent Reznor rubbing his hands with glee.

Sadly, the end result is all rather less than the sum of its' parts and despite all the sonic finery and the studio jewellery is ultimately more a case of emperor's new clothes rather than dressing to impress.
"Beautifulgarbage" is no mean album, but this was never one of the better tracks and isolated it fares little better.
