Review: 'WILT'
'DISTORTION'

-  Label: 'MUSHROOM RECORDS'
-  Genre: 'Rock' -  Release Date: 'NEW RELEASE 24/6/02'

Our Rating:
This reviewer's convinced WILT'S imminent second album "My Medicine" will raise their stock considerably as it's jam-packed with beefy tunes and steely attitude.

Last single "Take Me Home" was undeniably good and now second LP taster "Distortion" rams the point home with the force of a battering ram through a drawbridge. Hell, it's not even one of the album's best tracks either, but you try to avoid that "I'm looking rather wasted now that you're gone" chorus or the way it swings into a dangerously high fourth gear when the middle eight kicks in.

The other new tracks, "Tonic" and "Major Condition" hardly disgrace themselves, either. "Tonic", especially, strides out with purpose and cements the impression that Kilkenny's finest re making such ferocious rock action look shockingly easy, while "Major Condition" is marginally spacier, allowing some heavily-strummed acoustics and (I think) theremin to enter the fray before this chorus puts its' head on straight.

With CORMAC BATTLE in such fine songwriting form and his band in ultra-streamlined attack mode, WILT and ex-MANICS producer DAVE ERINGA are looking increasingly like a marriage made in heaven. "My Medicine" will really surprise a lot of people and (I hope) finally elevate this vastly improved band to fully deserved lofty heights.
