This set was recorded for the Marc Riley Show back in 2016 while Ty Segall & The Muggers were on a UK tour. The Muggers were Mykal Cronin, Cory Hanson, Emmett Kelly, Evan Burrows and Kyle Thomas.
The session opens with Squealer a keyboard led slightly askew odd pop anthem for that person who always Squeals about everything you do. Dark bass notes come in before speaker wobbling synth noises go off in multiple directions, making this joyous fun.
Breakfast Eggs has squalls of guitars and the deep synth undertow while Ty sings of the darkness of the world and his desire for the perfect Breakfast Eggs without saying if they should be sunny side up or scrambled, like the psychedelic prog pop that drives through the heart of this song.
Emotional Mugger will take everything they can take from you, complete with chanted backing vocals and a distressed guitar that allows Ty to yelp and moan over them like he doesn't care about the mess he leaves in his wake. Quite what John Wayne has to do with it, unless his partner still dreams of big leggy those synths just make you squirm in delight.
Candy Sam is a name you need to chant while the punch the air rhythm drives this along, guitars go off and this sounds like it could have been an unlikely hit, the glorious mess they create is infectious good fun.
They close the set with a cover of The Doors LA Woman that took them up to the news, this version of louche and crazed in equal measure, getting to the sleaze ridden heart of this classic song in ways that some other covers don't come close too. They sound like they are vamping and having a ball of a time ripping through it, while having only consumed half of Jim's daily booze intake between the entire group, allowing Mr Mojo to start rising to take that LA Woman just where they want her to go with them, in a frenzied name checking outro that is a brilliant way to end a classic radio session.
