Our Rating:
Objects, Beings & Parrots is the latest album by German exploratory rock duo Urlaub In Polen. They are Georg Brenner and Jan Philipp Janzen who recorded the album at MARS studies in Eifel in Germany.

The album opens with Abacus that has a very early 80's electronica feel, a bit Metal Boys but with 60's psychedelic guitars, while they insist you get out and get funky with this very dance ready song.
Washing Machine has a spinning bassline for this tale of exactly what they love about a Washing Machine, the joy of that particular labour saving invention, guitar interjections like the start of a heavy spin cycle, this will shake your room and help to get your clothes clean again, while the shimmering guitars spin your shirts almost dry.

Opposite Day has a death rock beat and guitars showing how dark things have become, while you hope for an opposite day that brings you back to joy and happiness again. Fame & Fortune slowly fades in with ambient synths and pulsating drums for the deadpan vocals asking what is right or wrong, how can they hold on, if you travel far and wide you will find that fame & Fortune, if you don't rest apparently, the squiggly guitar solo adds to the fun.

Face Of Reason slows things down to ask if you understand how they feel, like the aftermath of an argument and you are figuring out how things got so messed up. How do you dial back the hatred avoiding playing with razorblades and creeps.

The title track Objects, Beings & Parrots is more of an ambient interlude to chill out with. Jaki's Love Time is trying to wake you up and get you going on a Sunday Morning, you may be hungover and have a heavy fuzzy feeling in your head, so they have stripped this back to acoustic guitars and some brass so as not to upset your delicate equilibrium.

Moonwalk has dubby bass and funky guitars with a huge grin on it's face for those loose lips that sink ships, while never acknowledging the debt to the original Moon Walker Nicky Thomas, this is far more abstract indie dub than Skinhead Moonstomp.

The album closes with Yours built over a skanking bassline and searching guitars taking us across the borders into alien territory, this is funky in time for them to dance off into the night with every intention of taking Yours with them.
