Our Rating:
The Houndstooth And The Hum is the debut album by Dublin based Molly Vulpyne whose band includes alongside Molly, Peter Jones, Jay Bagnall and Tony Carberry. They recorded at Track Mix Studios the album was mixed by Michael Richards, John Leader and Dan Lucas.
The A-side opens with Hook that asks if you are well today, she will pray you are, against the heavy guitars, while asking you to take that Hook out of her skin, dark imagery for someone whose all show and no action.

It Don't Fit the cry of women the world over when trying to figure out the correct dress size when nothing really fits, seemingly made for teenage boys and not real women, she wants to stay inspired and feel like she can be herself, no matter how much she knows she doesn't fit in, this has a Distillers meets Choking Susan punky grunge edge.

Inertia Right Hand Man she might want your help, but how to make sure you get off your butt and actually help, she bounces all over the place, feeling rejected, but in need of a little support and help, so she can be fine too.

I Wanna Be Your Filter reminds me a bit of Salad but without the keyboards, the lyrics need to be heard a few times to get everything she is singing about, how she will help show you a way through the current malaise and a route to the truth that might allow you to stay, rather than feeling like you have to flee.

14 is slow acoustic pain for what happened to make you feel this is series 14, this is soul baring like Kristin Hersh's solo material, she's lost her religion and wants to learn how to live a good life.

The B-Side opens with the crunchy guitars of My Expiry that has a Breeders style brash alternative feel for all the pain of body imagery and the pigeonholes you are meant to fit into, when you have no interest in doing so.

Ripe slows things down to find ways through the anger and questions you have, while the guitars build, this discussion evolves, she will never rest till she has the answers. Ur A Fad you'll be gone in no time at all, no matter how much denial you are in, you'll be found out.

Ode To Your Farewell they want you out of there life, but don't know how to achieve that, this is speedy and has bitter twisted guitars trying to chase you out of her life. She doesn't want to have to lie back and think of England with you anymore, she will be happy when you are gone.

The album closes with Houndstooth And The Hum a spoken word poem read in Molly's rich Irish brogue, railing against all the online rubbish that is pushed at her, when what she really wants is some human contact, find a way out of the self-perpetuating cycle of chasing cash, so she can start making art for art sake, this poem that takes us round some very deceptive bends to a place where Molly can feel comfortable being who she wants to be.
