Review: 'The Casualties'
'Detonate'

-  Label: 'Hellcat Records'
-  Genre: 'Punk/New Wave' -  Release Date: '27.3.26.'

Our Rating:
Detonate is The Casualties first album for eight years and the second one with the current line-up of Doug Wellman, Dave Rodriguez, Jake Kolatis and Marc Meggers Eggers with special guests Tim Armstrong and Vinnie Stigma. The album was co-produced by The Casualties, Raul Riff Cuellar and Zac Blair, engineered by Raul Riff Cuellar At Riff Audio, Burbank, CA & The Boat, Silverlake, CA. Assistant Engineers - Zachary Castro, Bradley Riot and Robby Craig, mixed by Raul Riff Cuellar at Riff Audio, Burbank and mastered by Brad Boatright at Audiosiege, Portland.

The album opens with a short Intro with media voices talking about violence in the streets, before Detonate explodes in rage at the state of the world we are in, they want to pull the trigger and obliterate the powers holding us all down, this is raging hardcore punk with blitzkrieg guitars and bile ridden vocals ready to detonate everything.

People Over Power thrash metal speedy hardcore guitars and all the anger, like they have been shut in a room hearing American political speeches at top volume, they are rebelling, telling us that they are on the side of People Over Power every time, join them fighting for systematic change and bring down the rotten establishment now.

Empire Falls is hoping that the current calamity leads to real change, the end of the current despicable hegemony, all the rage of the oppressed and downtrodden channelled through blistering drums and fiery backing vocals, along with the power to the people raging vocals.

Ashes Of War opens with a Hari Krishna style chant before the guitars implode the peace, letting us see the despair that endless pointless wars bring, all the inflation and death and hatred instead of peaceful co-operation and fair trade, they want an end to the perpetual madness, they know there is a better way for us to all live and co-operate with each other.

Allies And Assassins is a plea for us to all be free to do what we wanna do, in these times that the USA is doing everything it can to stop having any allies at all, this is a clarion call for a change of direction, guitars crunch, before the drum breakdown, showing us all the way to freedom and a new world order free of the current ruling class.

Brick By Brick rages against political corruption and enrichment for the already stupidly rich, this is far more intense than Iggy Pops song of the same name, like always they want liberty and justice and to fuck the police, with what has happened in America in the last few years who could blame them, so get up and stand up for your rights and fight for true freedom.

Few The True is old school chant along hardcore punk call to arms, join them in The True showing you understand how terrible our leaders have been, they want a far more equitable world and we all need to join them on the crusade to prove modern Crusades obsessed idiots, like Peteler that we all know how messed up his thinking is.

Now And Tomorrow they hope tomorrow will be better than today, but doubt it, unless the chosen rise up and bring about the change that will make tomorrow somewhere they want to live, a place safe for bass solos and the gentlest guitar solo on the album, with the drums raging away calling us all to the fight.

Eye For An Eye is a dangerous thing to go for, if you think that for every missile launched, every drone attack, you should expect the same in return, they are raging at the idiocy of our times, over the fist punching intensity of anger pouring out of every orifice they have.

Pigs On Fire and they aren't having a barbecue tailgate party with them, instead they are ready to burn the Police and Ice in the hopes of getting us back to sanity, on the other side of the revolution that seems more and more inevitable, bringing about real change in America and the rest of the world. Blistering guitars with sturm und drang pummelled drums.

Streets of Hatred full of bile for the bullies killing innocents in the streets, this one goes out to the protestors and anyone fighting against authoritarian control anywhere on the planet. They wonder how we bring love and peace back to the streets after what went down in Minneapolis and Tehran, why would you want hatred on every street, all the desperation that needs to be overcome by speed freak guitars.

The album closes with Wake Up, Kill Repeat seems to be the Hogseth mania for more sorrow and pain every day, they make clear the stupidity of that credo at 200 mph and how we need to find better mantras for surviving the 2020's.
