Love + Death + Wealth + Water is the second EP that Goth legends Balaam & The Angel have released since announcing the bands comeback. The Ep was recorded at Oxygene Studios in Manchester with Christoph Bride in the producers chair. The band are as always the three Morris Brothers, Jim, Mark and Des who in November will he celebrating the 40th anniversary of the bands classic album The Greatest Story Ever Told with a tour playing the album in full, which I hope will be as much fun as the original gigs to support that album, that I saw all those decades ago
The A-side opens with Wealth with a brooding intro full Des' Burundi style goth drums, swathed in Jim's guitars while Mark tells us he needs wealth to hold in his hands, dishing out the economic advice that helps turn dreams into reality, putting your state of mind in the perfect place to continue to make proper goth anthems and floor fillers to twist across a club too.
Fear Of Poison Water is something that concerns us all more and more, in the age of AI draining the worlds aquifers, this takes Jim's motorik industrial synth, delicate organ sandwiched between his raging guitars full of the despair of a collapsing world, Mark's bass slows things down for a moments reflection, stigmata appears in the water, pain rages through the guitars, fighting the coming plague and disease, best go old school and just drink beer instead.
You Are Dead To Me a full on windswept, slow building epic ballad for a kiss off, a farewell to someone who had to be cut out of your life, punctuated by pain stricken guitar, squalling in agony over the rapped under story, everything is gone.
The EP closes with Love Me Too a good honest plea for a world of love rather than hate, driving beat and garage goth guitars, build though the various stages of convincing needed, that we are all worth loving and should be shaking our hair along to Balaam & The Angel like we always used to do.
