Secret Lover is the new 12" single by Houston born and Seattle based Synthpop artiste Orqid who are Tom Butchers of Orbit records latest project, he produced and plays everything, with assistance from Mr Benedictus. Mix engineering on Secret Lover by Hugo Paris at Tiny Crush Mixing. Mastered by Levi Seitz at Black Belt Mastering.
The 12" singles A-side opens with the title song Secret Lover that is a Blancmange style synth pop tune, destined for some euphoric action on the dancefloor, while you keep a lid on who you're Secret lover is and why they need to be kept on the down low, no matter how sparkly the clothes you're wearing, while dancing towards each other in the dark of the club, the autotuned breakdown ending adds a more modern twist to the situation.
Leap Of Faith that means glacial synths and almost stylophone synths are enough to bring the love, before treated guitar expands the palette, we end up somewhere that has a bunch of Don Johnston lookalikes preening in your direction.
Fill The World With Love is the correct message to currently be promulgating far and wide to everyone who can hear it. Anything to change our current trajectory of hate and despair, this has a synth bassline that could have been lifted from the Pet Shop Boys, having a Hi-NRG disco feel, so lets all shout his message loud and clear, Fill The World With love and destroy all the paragons of hatred.
The B-side opens with Electric Bird wanting you to dance like Jazzamatazz or Loose Ends are your go to beats, but with twists on that funky bassline, with enough room for some talented live freestyling over this tune, that swooshes and builds organically phased motions.
End Of The World Lounge is self-explanatory this is synthpop lounge music for the end of everything, a place where Maze obsessives argue with Spirogyra fans over who is most influential on Orqid.
The 12" Single closes with Facing Into Nothing with nothing more a than a State Of Independence adjacent bassline to build everything else around, the abyss never seemed so alluring, while you slide across the dancefloor in time to the repeating synth line.
