The first release from MORCHEEBA'S new line-up, with former Noonday Underground vocalist Daisy Martey replacing the mercurial Skye Edwards suggests that personnel upheavals have done little to upset the smooth running of the band's modus operandi.
Because "Wonders Never Cease" isn't much of a stylistic deviation, and certainly not the free jazz odyssey certain bands might threaten when a key member leaves and their appeal threatens to get more 'selective.'
No, with "Wonders Never Cease", it's more of a case of business as usual, though that also means if you've enjoyed Morcheeba's potent, danceable brew thus far, then you'll have precious little to complain about now. This tune presents a heavier, stompier groove than most of Morcheeba's oeuvre, but it's still a satisfying blend of live band and electronic frippery, with Daisy's voice proving a more than adequate substitute.

No alarms and no surprises, then. The good ship Morcheeba sails on and never once lists or threatens to take water. The voyage continues with confidence.
