Galvezton is the musical vehicle for singer-songwriter Robert Kuhn who was born in Houston and moved back to Texas in 2010 after globe-hopping for the best part of twelve years.
There is definitely something distinctly home-centred about this record. Indeed, they are songs his wife heard him writing and playing late at night in the kitchen. There’s a tender intimacy about this focus on domesticity. His voice rarely rises to a level that might disturb the neighbours.
The arrangements too are never loud; he accompanies himself on acoustic guitar, harmonica and analog synthesizer. Simple, minimal and introspective. “Life is far away from all I can see” he croons softly on Driftin’.

Roll to G-TOWN and Quint's Cantina are more upbeat and are akin to full band pieces. For the rest he channels his inner Dylan and makes heavy nods to the deadpan style of Lou Reed particularly on Tonight and True.
The songs explore love, loss, family, and healing : “Music is for healing, both for the artist and the listener,” says Kuhn.
