Want Me is the latest ep from Amy Bell who is another one of the artists based at the Warren Project in Hull and is produced by Warren House's in house producer Adam Pattrick, Amy plays everything apart from the drums played by Rob Burgess.
The Ep opens with the title track Want Me a gently strummed song wondering if your partner or friend really likes you or wants you, they are not quite sure why they are no longer wanted, while sounding a bit like Sacha Bell's long-lost sister, she is getting over the rejection and so no longer wants you either.
Millhouse is about childhood bullying and all the evils it leads to in adult life, the horror of what she see's happening around her growing up, never being able to get the answers from the so called responsible adults, who can keep you safe from all these horrible violent people, Amy's vocals are more strident than the music and that works to highlight the pain and suffering she's seen, that can't be cured with a gentle keyboard part.
Time asks why you had to leave and go your separate way, if only you still had what made things special when you were seventeen on the edge of life, rather than feeling depressed and downhearted at twenty-one giving this echoes of Janis Ian through a modern prism of her journey into maturity.
The ep closes with What Happened To Flag Day well I hope they abolished such stupid jingoistic nonsense, worshiping a bit of cloth, this is stripped back acoustic guitar folksong asking why it had to be abolished, not quite getting why certain men are so in love with that coloured cloth.
