Future Primitive is the debut album by Alternative dance, electro clash super group Concrete Hyena who feature Grand Theft Audio's Jay Butler and producer Jim Davies with the guitar wrangling skills of Hey Hello! guitar god Toshi, along with Rich Battersby and Jason Bowld.
The album opens with Patchwork Guilt something they are ridden with, they try to decide if they are an electro clash band, an indie band, a dance pop band or something else entirely, the vocals are Electric Six intense and work well inside the multiple clashing styles becoming their own style type backing, this is insane and catchy with it,
Hi! I'm Radio Mike opens like it's a dancefloor ready, rap pop banger, with a minimal electronic backing and chanted vocals parts, building like they have stolen the Chemical Brothers block rocking beats and know what to do with them, while they ask us all who told you that, along with a variety of things you are still doing, that you really oughtn't too, while freaking out on the dancefloor once more.
The Last Song We'll Ever Sing strangely isn't the last tune on the album and the others are not instrumentals, but that won't stop them working the loud quiet dynamics, adding some drum and bass percussion and bleeping noises for the vocals to wrap themselves around.
Cut Me Mick Is as much about asking Mick to cut you a line of your favourite powder, as it is calling to Mick to cut the vocals because you are so out of tune, Or have just been cut in the ring by another accidental head butt, this has heavy guitars, almost disco vocals and several electronic twists and turns, like you've been randomly slicing tape and stitching it all back together again no matter which engineer they get in to fix things up.
Guns And Ammo are what you clutch if you are full of self-loathing and can't bang your head enough to the grinding riffs, blasting through this dark tale of the over armed muscle bound violent idiots, can you cross that line and join up with Concrete Hyenas in living without your own stockpile of Guns And Ammo and avoid the incoming friendly fire.
Dark Times On Floor 94 you've snorted a bit too much and got properly paranoid, dark electronica turns your brain into a frenzied state of mind, where you think you might take the quick way back to the ground floor, when this slows to the break down, it has the fraught air of Faithless at their most demotic, they are not playing with you, no they prefer more eclectic souls.
The album closes with Oddball that threatens to go full on happy house, those heavy beats are at the ready, but the vocals keep it indie disco but with a soupcon of industrial guitars making sure this is properly Oddball and ready for multiple dance mixes.
