Review: 'The Sewergrooves'
'Acoin Sessions'

-  Label: 'Chaputa! Records/Ghost Highway Recordings'
-  Genre: 'Indie' -  Release Date: '25.6.26.'

Our Rating:
Acoin Sessions is the first new album by Stockholm Garage power pop legends The Sewergrooves who have been together for more than 30 years. The album was recorded at the bands own Acoin Studios. The Sewergrooves are Kurt Drackes, Andreas Broman, Frederik Hartelius and Packe Wahlqvist.

The A-side opens with Spanish Tears that are sobbed out over a distinctive riff and all the hopes that have been lost, that cause her to cry Spanish Tears while she waits for the night to help her drown her sorrows, she hopes she can find love instead of pain.

Stray Arrows has an urgency to just how they need to dodge those Stray Arrows, the strings on the guitar pulled like they are the bands own bow, they are taking aim while this flies along, with them certain they can't live without it, with the groove pushing them on.

The Owl is keeping watch over them, while they hope the place doesn't get burned down, on this punchy Garage power pop plea. Time Pass Us By is somewhere between The Byrds and The Miami's but with a garage twist or two, while sounding like the chorus was made for an audience to sway and sing along too it.

Walk Around takes a heavy biker riff and power pop style vocals for this tale of stumbling around Sodermalm or is it more Gamla Stan, in search of adventure, that could get you into trouble with the guitar having a rave up, they tell us they were born this way.

The B-side opens with Don't Throw Your Love Away whatever you do don't give up on him just yet, or he will have to beg and plead even more than he does on this spry song with a regret or two, with a nod or two to Soundtracks Of Our Lives.

All The Time they need you by there side, they can't do a thing without you, like puppies caught in the headlights of love again, they let your love creep up their spine, over that garage guitar riff that is working hard on making sure you're his till the end of time.

Out Of My Head they have lost the plot and downed far too many shots of Snaps, they have become skinny wraiths, shaking and shivering contorting and still deeply in love with you, no matter how much you might have given them the shove, to go and sing at a kraftskiva instead, rather than watching you go cold turkey again.

The album closes with them Looking For Kicks once more, no amount of Aquavit will scratch that itch for them, on this classic garage power pop rave up, to the joys of going out on the rampage, Looking For Kicks once more, all amped up chasing The Miracle 3's Amphetamines down that lonely road.
