Our Rating:
Toy Club is the latest album by Lyon based indie band My Raining Stars, The band is led by Thierry Haliniak with Casper Iskov, E-Grand and Malthea. The album was produced and mixed and arranged by E-Grand (Didier Frahier) who used to be in Nothing To Be Done with Thierry. The album was Mastered by Mark Gardener at OX4 Sound.
The album opens with Wherever a slightly wistful jangling song from the edges of nowhere, hoping that if he does his best it will be good enough, well the guitar solo is certainly good enough with a light Crazy horse edge to it.
Kind Of Light tries to answer your questions of the quietly insistent riff that drives this on, while he hopes to persuade you that he is still worth your time. Silent Girl is clearly too shy to speak to them, just another indie wallflower they want to find out more about, while the spry guitars seek to enchant her and make her speak to them.
In His Heart he wants to make sophisticated neo psychedelic indie pop, this being a good example of it, with a hazy feel for all the things he wants you leave as indelible marks In His Heart, even if you don't love him as much as he is in love with you.
Fine is that word that a lover says to you, when they don't really go along with what you want to do, this is full of jangling longing for things to be better than they are, while sounding a bit like The Wee Cherubs or Pale Fountains.
It Will Take Me A While to get over you and all the things he still wants to do with you. Can he move forwards now you've left him to all his misery. Priceless is the feelings you have after hearing the guitars jangle and weave this tale into your mind, with a subtle intensity.
As Far Back as they can take us seems to be about 1983 or so, to the sound of Postcard Records or Sarah Records and the wistful innocence of early jangle pop, the feelings of loneliness and waiting for you by the fountain, trying to look fey and foppish, while being surprised by your abilities.
The album closes with When The Time Comes To Leave its light outside, it's time to stumble home from Toy Club once more, the guitars have met that early morning sunshine, you are hoping to make it home together again, the longing shines through their bleary eyes, they have danced through the night together once more.
