Review: 'Shuffle'
'whatsthatyougot? EP'

-  Label: 'Criminal Records UK'
-  Genre: 'Pop' -  Release Date: '14th March 2005'-  Catalogue No: 'CRIM1013CD'

Our Rating:
When I heard Shuffle's track on Criminal Records recent compilation, I was intrigued to say the least. But while pop may be used to describe their upbeat shenanigans on the EP as a whole, make no mistake, there is no question of credibility here. 'My friend's girlfriend' and 'What's that you got?' define the certain street mood of this EP and its quirky composition.

Combining a crisp musical style, solid beats and humour; Shuffle have stirred in all the right ingredients before cooking (Even Morrissey would be proud). Fronted by vocalists Seamus and Monica, this 7-piece band has given me a lot to think about.

Interestingly, the band remains fresh and original despite the largely retro feel of the EP and its varying influences. From 80s to jazz to punk in it's element, the EP peaks at track 'Needles', hosting big beats and ambiguous yet seductive vocals.

While at points I felt like a musical guinea pig, the EP is current and I'm sure any ears would prick up at the slightest sound.
