Review: 'The Northern Line'
'The Northern Line'

-  Label: 'Mad Fer It Records'
-  Genre: 'Indie' -  Release Date: '26.8.26.'

Our Rating:
The Northern Line is an EP from a new band from Boston, who are in love with baggy 90's Madchester sounds, along with the influence of The Northern Line on modern music. The Northern Line are Bilvox, Pete Kitchener, Carrie Ingber, Mike Ackley, McG and Josh McGee. Apologies if my tube obsessed review twists these songs a bit too much.

The ep opens with Let's Roll On and get ourselves down to Camden Town once more, this has the sound of The Good Mixer circa about 1995, baggy guitars and a Day-glo groove, built around a Primal Scream style, stonesy backbeat, for the future they perceive will be theirs, if they can run up the stairs at Hampstead station without stopping once.

Lightning Strikes like you are opening for Five Thirty at the Bull & Gate, they want to bang the drum like some Stone Roses obsessives who didn't notice how in love with the Paisley Underground they were. This reminds me of short lived 90's band Win, it has plenty of swagger and is unafraid of the walk from Brent station to Brent Cross, this organ sounds like you are in that concrete canyon hoping the skinheads don't attack you for looking like an acid casualty.

Out In The Drift that sounds like it's somewhere close to Mordern, they've lost their faith and are battling to convince the parents that war is not a good idea. This slowly builds before the guitars explode and the angst of being stuck in deepest South London become apparent.

Throw A Fist they are fleeing into the tube station at Elephant & Castle at midnight, after getting into a dust up over a girl, they are not afraid to Throw A Fist or sing another Inspiral's inspired tune, the organ feels like a train picking up speed, heading towards London Bridge while they escape in one piece almost.
