Appendix is the latest Ep from San Francisco College/Alternative rocker Joel Cusumano and follow up to last year's Waxworld album. His band on the EP are Brett Austin Eastman, Ella Keilt, Owen Kelley, Julie Barwick, Ray Seraphin, Matt Bullimore and Rob Good who also engineered the EP.
The EP fades into Buying Time a rather 80's sounding college rock anthem for the never-ending need for more time, while sounding like it should be on a Trouser Press presents compilation album.
Mortal Fool is one of those people we all know but wish we didn't, the organ drives it on and the power pop vocals drive home the awful sound that makes you wonder how he's still alive, with classic College rock guitars sounding rather lovely and not awful at all.
Stigmata reminds me of Cobra Verde or similar Cle punk bands, it has a poppy sensibility while tackling dark issues of our times. Even in the slacker breakdown, it keeps it working, till we are all ready to sing Stigmata back at Joel every time he sings it.
The ep closes with 7X7 that is in a real hurry to deliver its message to us, trying to put out some of the modern fires that we gnash our teeth at, an almost staccato rhythm showing us how we are better off that we might have been.
