Our Rating:
Afterlight is the debut album by Starter Car the group Oisean Burnett put together when he moved from Glasgow to London, where Starter Car's passengers are Christie Gardner, Sophia Bartlett and Michael Rhea. The album was produced and Recorded by Joe Futak.

The album opens with the pained lovestruck Throwing Down that has all the charm of a beaten up 12-year-old Ford Fiesta, while they long for the partner who's not around and use them as an excuse for getting drunk.

Avert moves like a Nissan Micra with different coloured doors that hasn't been serviced for years, harmony vocals try to make you Avert your eyes from those rust patches, while standing frozen on the pavement, wondering if it will start and get you home again.

Safety Net opens like he's trying to tune his Blue Spot radio into a decent station in his Skoda Estelle, having found that station, he then tries to help a friend in need of pulling back from a suicidal precipice, while knowing he doesn't really have the answers.

Watered Down like the rain that always drips through the roof of the Citroen 2CV his girlfriend convinced him was cool, he's running around trying to find some strength, buoyed by the sweet fiddle playing in the background, while hearing voices whispered in his ear, he will never be pure, while arriving everywhere in damp clothes.

Wisecrack like you've heard every joke there is about driving a Lada and still find them funny, the fiddles help them feel safe once more, in the bleak reality of trying to go on the pull while behind the wheel of that Niva.

More Me she's had enough of him and his lack of faith in her Mini Clubman to get them where they need to be, his suggestions she needs more of him doesn't get quite the answer he's hoping for, this sputters along.

Dumb Luck was involved when they managed to get a reliable Vauxhall Viva that didn't rattle too much, guitars rise and the harmonious cries of gotta have Dumb Luck also show they managed to get it through another MOT, despite some of the cars inherent issues.

Know What to Say to the owner of that Toyota Corolla to let you have it for a bargain price, while still having nightmares about children with burnt out eyes, this has a dark edge to the pretty, insistent indie pop backing, the guitar intro almost mimicking a backfiring engine.

Stranger is dark late-night thoughts from the back of a Fiat Uno, for a friend, now an ex, who will always feel like a stranger to you, while the tears trickle down your cheeks once more, at the injustice of where life is leading you.

Kicking your childhood addiction to Volkswagen beetles was impossible, you had to own one, even if you knew it would never run smoothly, like the fights you're having over who sits in the back on this trip, somehow your harmonies sound cool, but the kicking always starts when the bile starts to rise, how can you stop it.
