Blind Love is a new four track ep of Tom Waits covers by Eddie Skuller who recorded the ep onto 2 track tape with no vocal overdubs at The Chicken Shack studios in upstate New York and produced by Nick Kinsey his backing band are Jeremy Chatzky, Jack Skuller, Nick Kinsey and Ryder Cooley.
The ep opens with Blind Love that's played suitably slowly and magisterially, for this classic downhearted Tom Waits tune, Eddie's vocals aren't as low or evocative as Tom's, but few people can sing quite like that, he does however get over the passion and pain at the songs heart.
Downtown Train is stripped back to its musical essence, barely their guitar and keyboards slowly evolving along with the central story of going on the Downtown Train into New York and seeing all the bridge and tunnel crowd on their way to find new love on another night out, this feels regretful for nights of failure, while describing just what his walk through the streets is like.
House Where Nobody Lives slowly shuffles to life for this invocation to an abandoned house and the folks that left it last. The description of how the abandoned house looks both inside and out as it slowly decays, while waiting for someone else to decide it isn't haunted and they want to breathe new life into it.
The ep closes with You Can Never Hold Back Spring watching as the bare skeleton branches start to bloom and fill out, the gentle accordion and guitar evolve as the flower start to sprout and life begins anew, he is dreaming of new love too.
