Our Rating:
Those of a certain age, and, of course, stature, will be familiar with this little number.

The playground taunt of every 'large' child in the 70's and 80's, 'Hey Fatty Boom Boom', has been resurrected by Reggae/Hip-Hop duo, WALKERMAN. Carl Malcolm's original classic 70's track has been updated, and in the same vein as Sir Mix-A-Lot's 'Baby Got Back', is hailed as a tribute to the larger and curvier section of the female population.

Fronted by a male model/singer/dancer, Walkerman should have a sure-fire summer hit on their hands with this, their debut. The copy I've got here has three mixes of the song, which, to me, usually means the artist is struggling for more meaningful material.

Still, the main mix (Original Club Mix), has a lovely Jamaican dancehall feel all over it; the familiar riff is enhanced a sultry bassline and handclaps, to accompany the insinuating lyrics; surely guaranteeing packed dancefloors everywhere.

For this particular reviewer though, it's the 'Sea View Mix' of 'Hey Fattie' that steals the show. Pared down, the track retains the infectious handclaps, but the underpinning hypnotic sample gives the track a new hardcore sensitivity. Less kitsch, more Killer.

Thus, the need for the third mix (Pan Jam Mix Down) is rendered pointless. Especially as it sounds exactly the same as the first one.

Walkerman may claim that 'Hey Fattie' is all about the attributes of the larger lady, and, for all intent and purposes, it is. But we all know, deep down in our hearts, that when this hits MTV, playground fatties everywhere will be running for cover.
