Precariously straddling the lines of demarcation between art, commerce and subversion, "Pick Me Up" is cute, brash and sexy electro-pop designed to be transmitted (cranked up to 11, Tap fans!) from mobile to mobile. Hey, that's word of mouth in these txt-friendly times, right?
HK119 herself is the alter-ego of Finnish artist Heidi Kilpelainen, a lass who can impressively count both Bjork and Alison Goldfrapp amongst her admirers. She shows she can get tangled up in intriguingly catchy electro-pop here, as well, as - after being hailed by the inevitable trill of a mobile phone ringtone - the song cocks a snook at both Gary Numan (circa "Cars") and David Bowie's Berlin period before getting to that "pick me up and put me down" chorus which seems so obvious it's utter genius.

Stick around for the DEAN HONER remix as well. This shapely re-tooling (from the I MONSTER man) is pithy, starker, economic and arguably even more immediate than the original and could easily do the radio as well as club business on its' own.
A bizarre slice of pop inspiration and then some, HK119 is an alter-ego worth indulging. Let's hope she's got similarly slinky numbers to punch in when it comes to follow-up time.
