Review: 'THIS ET AL'
'YOU'VE DRIVEN FOR MILES & NOT REMEMBERED A THING'

-  Label: 'DOUBLE DRAGON (thisetal@hotmail.com)'
-  Genre: 'Rock' -  Release Date: '3rd October 2005'

Our Rating:
Another band liable to get shoved under the microscope in the nationals by dint of their Leeds/ Bradford heritage, THIS ET AL are actually a cool band regardless of geography, and fine new single "You've Driven For Miles And Not Remembered A Thing" is as good a follow-up to the striking "He Shoots Presidents" as you could hope for.

Once again, it's a frenetic, but controlled affair, built around seething guitar invective with tangible nods to NYC luminaries such as Interpol (the dark, heart-rending drama) and Sonic Youth (the strangely-tuned allure) rather than any of their current Yorkshire counterparts. Which, in the long-run, is surely a healthy deviation.

B-side "All You'll Ever Be Is A Dancer" is a goodie an' all. This time it's spiky, economic and revels in the band's usual assault course of tricky time changes without ever thinking of losing the plot. It's tuff'n'brittle stuff, recalling great, long-lost early 90s hardcore heroes like Slum Turkeys and Crane every bit as much as the band's contemporary post-punk suspects and - like its' illustrious A-side - ends JUST.LIKE.THAT.

So that's it. Fine single. No complaints. More please.
