Review: 'SOULWAX (2MANY DJs/ RADIO SOULWAX)'
'Newcastle University, 13th October 2005'

-  Genre: 'Pop'

Our Rating:
SOULWAX are 2Many DJs who are Radio Soulwax. Confused? It's a tricky one alright but pretty simple once explained (well, kind of).

Soulwax are a Belgian indie band consisting of brothers David and Stephen Dewaele, Stefaan Van Leuven and Steve Slingeneyer. The Dewaele brothers then decided to form 2ManyDJs, cutting, pasting and remixing together songs like Ladytron's 'Seventeen', Kylie Minogue's 'Can't Get You Out Of My Head' and Sugababes 'Round Round' to the delight of indie discos, dance fanatics and general movers and shakers around the world.

Currently, the brothers are touring Britain as Radio Soulwax as well as their alter-egos 2Many DJs to show case their new album 'Nite Versions' at a series of club nights around the country. Understand? I hope so!

'Nite Versions' is a remix of the last Soulwax album 'Any Minute Now' and contains funky disco beats, pumping bass lines and tunes that you just can't help but to dance along to and live sounded even better than it did on record. Played in the Newcastle University Union basement, tightly packed full of frantically dancing, oh so sweaty students a better reception for the album could not have been had. Songs such as 'E Talking' and 'Miserable Girl' which are already bursting full of energy were remixed to even a higher degree to cries of delight from the over excited crowd.

It was hard to tell when Radio Soulwax, dressed in pristine white polo shirts, left the stage to the opening beats of LCD Sound System only to come back just as the track was finishing, dressed in back t-shirts as 2Many DJs. Not a break was there between the songs or a farewell from the brothers as they exited, or greeting as they returned, but it didn't matter as no one was really paying attention, to busy were they boogie-ing away.

2ManyDJs remixed classic tunes such as 'Billy Jean,' 'Fools Gold' and 'Song 2' as well as songs by the likes of Franz Ferdinand, Peaches and NERD, and at one point there was even a tribute to John Peel in the form of 'Teenage Kicks' to the delight of the audience. It was a fantastic night; 5 hours of crazy dancing to amazing tunes and by the end of the evening heads were throbbing with the beats of the songs, the walls were dripping with the amount of moisture in the room and nobody wanted to leave. Ace!
